Preparing for birth and postpartum was an interest

Preparing for birth and postpartum was an interesting process for us. Life was in flux (as it usually is), and we made the best of it. As a doula for years, I had access to all of the resources I want all mothers to have, but I still had the challenge of life not being as settled as I had always envisioned I would be when I had my first child. We didn’t have a home base for much of my pregnancy and were planning to move shortly after giving birth. I was far from my zen mama state, which I find ironic but oh so realistic. (Do we need a rebrand?!🤣🙌🏼) I loved my doctor and hospital so much that I really didn’t want to move before birth(something I actually don’t hear from clients often so felt really lucky to have found my team.) So, we bounced around a ton while growing this little babe - stayed at a friend’s place(🙏🏼), traveled and explored new places (🙌🏼), saw family and friends (💕), and found a temporary home to bring Malin into. It felt insane but was also special as it is our story and was Malin’s entrance!

No matter what life looks like when having a baby, it’s hopefully an exciting time but many other feelings can also come up. I always say to start where you are and build on that. Knowing what you need in that space and time in your life is most important and will help you to honor the place you really are vs trying to push for something that is not in alignment with your current state.

For example, I had always thought I would be open to trying whatever came my way for birth - and I just knew I wasn’t in that particular space before Malin came. So I planned for something different and it turned out to be mind-blowingly magnificent in its own incredible and unique way. I’m so thankful I listened to myself and released the pressure.

In the next week, I’ll be sharing the themes I like to go over with people during my prenatal course. No matter where you are, how you’re feeling, or how “prepared” you feel, there are ways to approach each of these concepts before birth so that your experience as a new parent is right for YOU. In that moment. In that space. In the unique YOU that is bringing your new baby into the world.
